READ FULL BIOTalk#2 6G Role in Agriculture
While autonomous machines are gaining attention on city streets today, agriculture has had GPS-enabled, automatically steered vehicles for over 20 years. Most modern farm equipment is in fact a rolling sensor platform with touch screen interfaces and extensive automation capabilities that can position a single seed in the ground with centimeter-level accuracy. Beyond traditional equipment, a multitude of sensors, cameras, and controllers are working their way into the fields and barns used to produce food, fiber, feed, and fuel. All these tools are being connected to provide data for farmers to make better and faster decisions in the face of changing weather patterns, increased regulatory pressure, and greater public demand for crop production transparency. Consistent and reliable connectivity plays a crucial role in enabling this shift to data driven agriculture, however farming generally takes place in rural areas where cellular coverage is often spotty at best. We will review the main use cases around connectivity in agriculture today and what the vertical needs from a 6G network.
